Sony is rumoured to be working on a new handheld device called Project Q Lite, which will feature an 8-inch LCD screen and only work with PlayStation Remote Play to stream PS5 games.

Sony’s Project Q Lite Rumoured to be Company’s Latest PlayStation Handheld Device

PS5 DualSense Controller May Have Popped Up on SIRIM

Sony has been a major player in the handheld gaming console market with the PSP and PS Vita, and now it seems the company is looking to make a comeback with its new device, the PlayStation Q Lite. According to a new report, Sony’s new device is currently undergoing QA testing and is said to be similar to the PlayStation 5 DualSense controller with an 8-inch LCD screen in the middle. The catch is that it will only work with Sony’s PlayStation Remote Play, meaning it will be able to stream PS5 games but won’t be able to play games on its own without an internet connection.

While there’s no confirmation if the device will be able to work with other cloud-based gaming platforms, it’s expected that the PlayStation Q Lite will be similar to the Nintendo Wii U GamePad, which connects to the Wii U via a modified low-latency Wi-Fi protocol and allows users to play games on a smaller screen as long as they are on the same network as the console.

The upcoming PlayStation handheld device, Project Q Lite, will feature adaptive triggers, speakers, volume buttons and a 3.5mm audio jack. The screen will support 1080p resolution at 60fps, which is a significant improvement over the PS Vita’s 960×544 resolution.

According to reports, Sony is expected to launch its new handheld device just after the upcoming PS5 with a detachable disc drive, which is expected to be released in September, and before the PlayStation 5 Pro announcement rumoured to take place in late 2024. While Sony’s new device won’t be able to compete with Nintendo’s Switch, which offers both portable and home console gaming, the PlayStation Q Lite is expected to be a welcome addition to the gaming market for those who are looking for a portable device for streaming their PS5 games.

Pokdepinion: As much as people may have reservations given the PS Vita, let’s not forget that the PSP was a massive success. Still not sure how to feel about this one given the added emphasis on Remote Play but it’s something that is at least worth looking forward to.
