AMD Ryzen 3000 CPU Has Compatibility Issues with Old PC Games
The AMD Ryzen 3000 CPU series is one of the most highly sought after processors for PC today. It’s no surprise given the performance and value-for-money proposition for consumers. It was recently discovered that there’s one issue when it comes to old PC games.
According to YouTuber The Good Old Gamer, AMD Ryzen 3000 CPUs have trouble loading old PC games. The problem occurred when running Max Payne, which the game refused to load with a “Corrupt jpeg Data” error message popping up instead. The game ran fine with AMD Ryzen 1600X.
It is said that the reason for this error is due to the architecture of the AMD Ryzen 3000 series CPU and there’s no solutions available yet. At the moment, we only know that Max Payne is having this issue but it could be a sign that other old PC games may face similar issues.
While it’s not exactly a dealbreaker, there are still a wide number of PC gamers out there who play older games. For these people, using / purchasing the CPU would be a problematic, at least for now. A commenter mentioned that converting each JPEG file in the game to the latest JPEG version might do the trick but it hasn’t been tested yet.
Let us know in the comments section if you are facing similar compatibility issues. We’d definitely like to see how extensive this issue is or if it’s simply an isolated case.
