The Black Shark made waves as the only affordable gaming phone back then. It was not only an affordable gaming phone, but it was also the most affordable Snapdragon 845 device. Of course, the latter claim was pretty short-lived. And it soon faded into obscurity due to the lack of official sales channels anywhere other than in China.

However they are apparently working on a new Black Shark 2, which seems to feature RGB lighting, and a much more refined design. Considering the ROG Phone and Razer Phone 2 both feature RGB lighting, it would be foolish for Black Shark to not try to capture that target demographic.

The Snapdragon 855 is yet to appear, so the Black Shark 2 will most probably be an incremental upgrade. Unless somehow Xiaomi/Black Shark manages to be the first to use the Snapdragon 855, the Black Shark 2 will easily get overshadowed. Well at least it looks a lot better than the first one now.

We can expect the Black Shark 2 to have at least 6GB of RAM, a 4000 mAh battery and hopefully a faster display this time. They used MEMC back then for a more fluid experience, but nothing beats a true 90 Hz/120 Hz display. And of course, with Xiaomi’s DNA, affordable. How affordable, we will have to find out later. And hopefully this time it will be made available worldwide, now with a global site in place.

Pokdepinion: I love the design now! It seems like Black Shark’s designers has matured a lot! Of course when it comes to aggressive gaming aesthetics, the ROG Phone is the phone to beat, for now.
