First steps to esports being recognized as a sports in Malaysia? Gaming events listed as part of National Sports Day 2018!
There were rumors and also some pretty strong support from our Youth and Sports Minister, Syed Saddiq towards esports being an officially recognized sport in Malaysia. He seems to have lived up to his word with the upcoming National Sports Day 2018 to feature a list of esport titles.
Aside from offering gamers a chance to shine, the Ministry of Youth and Sports has actually worked with people in the industry to better understand the scene. Among a number of partners are EBLUE, an esports brand, which will be supplying the main stage, commentator setup and competitive 2v2 RGB platform.
A number of games including CS:GO, DOTA 2, FIFA 19, FIFA Online 3 and PES will be played at the game, including mobile games like AoV and Mobile Legend: Bang Bang. The total price pool of RM18 350 is pretty attractive too. The stage has been set and players will be playing for their cut of the prize pool in a few hours at Bukit Jalil National Stadium.
Hopefully with this event, everyone in Malaysia would begin to understand that gaming is more than just a past time. We look forward to more esports events in the future!
