Smartphone designs recently focuses a lot on the camera area. One of the reasons is because most people considers the camera to be the make-or-break feature on smartphones. The HONOR V30 and V30 Pro may have overdone it a tad.

The HONOR V30 and V30 Pro should hit international markets as the HONOR View30 and View30 Pro or Vera30 series. On the back is a triple camera setup, but HONOR has decided to design an oversized rectangular bump to highlight the camera setup.

For the first time, HONOR will be using the 40MP Sony IMX600 sensor. From the Chinese description, it seems like HONOR’s rendition of the sensor will also feature a custom RYYB filter, which is the foundation of HUAWEI’s SuperSensing technology. For the HONOR V30, the sensor will be behind a f/1.8 aperture while the V30 Pro touts faster f/1.6 optics. Both models will tout OIS.

Meanwhile the telephoto cameras on both the HONOR V30 and V30 Pro will be the same, with a 8MP f/2.4 camera with 3x optical zoom backed by OIS. The wide-angle camera is where the HONOR V30 Pro differentiates itself once again, with a 12MP f/2.2 “video” camera while the HONOR V30 settles for an 8MP f/2.4 camera. To cap it all off, there’s laser autofocus too.

Over on the front, HONOR is upgrading the punch hole on the HONOR 20 series to a wider pill-shaped cutout to house a dual-camera setup. Now the front facing cameras consists of a 32MP primary camera and an 8MP ultra-wide angle camera for the groupfies. HONOR has yet to use an OLED panel in any of their flagships other than the HONOR Magic series, and the trend continues, with the HONOR V30 series both packing 6.57″ FHD+ IPS LCD panels.

Under the hood, the HONOR V30 will pack a larger 4200 mAh battery, while the V30 Pro will have a smaller 4100 mAh battery. Both of them will offer 40W SuperCharge, but the V30 Pro also comes with wireless SuperCharge and can also do wireless reverse charging. It’s worth noting that the HONOR V30 packs a less efficient Kirin 990, while the V30 Pro packs the Kirin 990 5G though.

The differences are actually pretty subtle between the duo as you can see. Both devices will launch with Magic UI 3.0.1 which is based on Android 10 but will sport HUAWEI Mobile Services instead of GMS. Pre-orders for the HONOR V30 begins now, while the V30 Pro will be available for pre-order starting from 5th December in China.
