YouTube recently launched their newest YouTube Kids app, a more kid-friendly version of the standard YouTube app back on the 5th of October this year in Malaysia. Aiming to take over both your children’s television and YouTube Kids, Les’ Copaque, Animonsta Studios and Digital Durian, current rockstars amongst our local animation studios, have been pumping in their most popular shows such as Upin & Ipin, BoboiBoy and a slew of other locally produced shows into the fledgling service.

Malaysian Animation Takeover on YouTube Kids

Recognizing the Malaysian talent who’s ingenuity and creative efforts that went into creating these popular and well loved cartoons, MDEC in collaboration with Google Malaysia held a special event to proudly celebrate the work of these local studios. In the event MDEC unveiled some brand new content by other local animation studios for YouTube Kids. These fun, new and original shows are made by Animasia, Giggle Garage, Inspidea, Lemon Sky, and Lil Critter Workshop and are developed to enhance children’s sense of discovery, help stimulate their minds and encourage learning.

MDEC stated that 2015 was a good year for our local animation studios as the industry recorded an astounding 52% growth in exports based on the work by our local studios such as Animonsta, Giggle Garage, Tau Films and Les’ Copaque. This could potentially pave the way for Malaysia as a leading provider of creative digital content.

Dato Yasmin Mahmood, Chief Executive Officer of MDEC had this to say on this fantastic achievement,

We are extremely proud of our home-grown talents for their achievements in driving Malaysia’s creative content industry. Malaysia’s talent pool is growing in both quality and quantity and as the nation’s ICT custodian, MDEC will continue to create opportunities and develop capabilities of local talents to produce world-class content. The road ahead is a promising one and as such, we will not rest at our laurels; instead we will forge ahead with more popular content from our brilliant talents.

MDEC will continue to promote and encourage more potential content creators to start their companies and create content for both YouTube and YouTube Kids.
