While I have previously thought NVIDIA will launch the GTX 950 Ti with a Pascal GPU, apparently they have decided to milk the GM206 core once again, with a NVIDIA GTX 950 Ti apparently in the works. While no official information has been released by NVIDIA’s channels, it looks like the NVIDIA GTX 950 Ti will sport 896 stream processors and will offer performance between the GTX 950 and the GTX 960. In comparison, the GTX 950 has 768 stream processors, while the GTX 960 with the full GM206 silicon has 1024 SP.

If the GeForce GTX 950 Ti comes with the GM206 silicon, it will support DirectX 12, OpenGL 4.3, OpenCL 1.1, Vulkan and other NVIDIA’s proprietary technologies. Moreover, the product will also be ideal for HTPC enthusiasts since it supports hardware H.265 (HEVC) encoding/decoding and is compatible with HDCP 2.2 content protection over HDMI 2.0, a set of technologies that will be required to playback Ultra HD Blu-ray content.

Pokdepinion: It is uncertain whether this rumor will come to fruition, but to me, the GTX 950 Ti may be a rather unnecessary card as the GTX 960 and GTX 950 already offer competitive performance in their respective price range. Have a look at our review of the ASUS Strix GTX 960 to see how the full GM206 GPU performs.
