The PS4 Update 5.01 for the system software has begun rolling out. Here’s everything you need to know about the new system software update.

PS4 Update 5.01 Rolling Out

The folks over at Sony Interactive Entertainment have begun rolling out the PS4 update 5.01, available via the PlayStation Network. The update isn’t even remotely big unless you’re downloading it off mobile data, at 374.7 MBs, and like all decimal updates, the patch notes are quite small, even if the message is slightly different than usual.

“The system software update improves system performance.”

Do keep in mind that this normally means that the performance of the operating system has been improved, not of the games run by the console. In other words, don’t expect your games to suddenly run at 60 FPS after the update, especially when the game doesn’t support that frame rate.

At the moment of this writing the PS4 update 5.01 isn’t yet available on the relevant websites, and and you’ll need to use the option in the settings of your PS4 or PS4 Pro to launch the download and start the installation. Whether you’re in the Asia region, U.S., or Europe, don’t panic if you don’t see the PS4 Update 5.01 notification. It might take a bit of time to reach you.

The latest large update to the PS4 system software was released earlier this month, and was numbered 5.00 (nicknamed Nobunaga). It included a lot of new features like on overhauled family system, better friend list management (including the ability to follow anyone), improved broadcast features, messages and notifications, team tournaments, virtual surround sound for PlayStation VR and quite a few more.

Pokdepinion: Are you a bit disappointed by the PS4 Update 5.01? Well, this is actually quite normal considering the last update we got was a major one. In other words, don’t expect too much from PS4 system software updates in the near future.
