The entry-level smartphone category is rife with choices. And Xiaomi offers among the best selection of affordable smartphones with great value for money. Not keen on breaking that track record, Xiaomi is bringing in the Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A to Malaysia, with prices starting from just RM349.

The new Xiaomi smartphones sport the latest 12nm MediaTek chipsets, for better efficiency than comparable 28nm chipsets which are ubiquitous in the entry-level market. The Redmi 6 comes with an octa-core Helio P22, while the Redmi 6A makes do with a quad-core Helio A22. Both chipsets are clocked at up to 2.0 GHz, a feat possible thanks to the 12nm manufacturing process. The Redmi 6 packs 3GB of RAM with 32GB of storage, while the Redmi 6A pares that down to just 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. Both devices are powered by a 3000 mAh battery.

While they may be different on the inside, the Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A comes with the same 5.45″ HD+ 18:9 display and polycarbonate shell that feels like brushed metal, according to Xiaomi. The two budget devices also come with a 5MP front camera, but their rear cameras differ. The Redmi 6 comes with a 12MP + 5MP dual rear camera, with the main sensor featuring large 1.25μm pixels, which are the largest in this price range. The Redmi 6A on the other hand, features a 13MP single rear camera.

The Redmi 6 is priced at RM499, while the Redmi 6A is priced at RM349. Both devices will be available starting 25th July on Lazada, authorized Mi stores and Mi zones.

Pokdepinion: It would be quite interesting to see how does the MediaTek P22 hold itself against the Snapdragon 625, which is also very popular in Xiaomi’s mid-range lineup.
