Samsung Introduces The Brand New Exynos 980 — Their First 5G Integrated Chipset

Samsung has recently introduced their latest mobile processor, the Exynos 980, which combines connectivity with an integrated 5G modem as well as intelligent processing performance, all in a single chip.

The new SoC is based on 8nm FinFET process technology and it is their first ever artificial intelligence (AI) with an integrated 5G modem. With the technology, it’ll enable fast gigabit downlink speed in 4G (LTE) and up to 2.55Gbps in sub-6GHz 5G.

In addition to that, it supports E-UTRA-NR Dual Connectivity or EN-DC, which combines 2CC LTE and 5G connectivity to maximize mobile downlink speed of up to 3.55Gbps. The new Wi-Fi 6 is also support by the processor. It packs two Cortex-A77 CPU cores and six Cortex-A55 cores.

In terms of photography, the Exynos 980 delivers performance with resolution support for up to 108MP. Its advanced image signal processor (ISP) supports up to five individual sensors and will be able to process three concurrently for better multi-camera experience.

Other than that, it will allow for 4K UHD videos at 120fps and it also comes with HDR10+ support with dynamic mapping.

The Exynos 980 is expected to begin mass production by the end of this year.
