Shenmue 3 Raises A Whopping $7.2 Million Through Crowdfunding

The release of the highly anticipated sequel that many games have been waiting since the Dreamcast age, Shenmue 3, is getting closer and closer. It definitely took a lot to make the game happen, including massive support from the fans. The major thing that made the game possible is the Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign which helped to cover costs for development and publishing.

This initial Kickstarter campaign, labeled #SaveShenmue, amassed a whopping USD $6,333,295 from 69,320 backers in late 2015. It gained USD $2,000,000 in just nine hours and was fully funded due to it. However, fan support did not stop there.

After the #SaveShenmue campaign ended on Kickstarter, the developers created a second crowdfunding campaign on their own site titled “Slack Backer” which ran for three years before discontinuing in September. Today, the developers announced the final figures from both campaigns.

A grand total of USD $7,179,510 was collected from both campaigns from 81,087 supporters. They announced the final figures through their official website and via a Kickstarter Backer update post, which had some nice sentiment to it.

Quite an impressive score, isn’t it!? Seeing the final numbers” makes the team working on Shenmue 3 “feel all over again the immensity of the support everyone has given to make this project come true! Thank you!

Shenmue 3 will be coming to the PlayStation 4 and PC on 27th August 2019.

Pokdepinion: I knew this series had a big, loyal fanbase but wow, that’s is a huge amount raised for the game. Let’s hope it will be a great game when it’s finally released so it will set a precedent for crowdfunded games.
