TM has been teasing about this surprise, but we’re not sure if you’ll even like it.
There’s a decent number of you people out there who feel that our internet speed is lacking. Whether it’s the speed itself or latency issues, there’s nothing wrong with feeling like we need a bit more speed in it. After all, the world is becoming more and more dependent on the internet.
During the tabling of Budget 2017 in Malaysia, Prime Minister Najib Razak announced their goal of providing the country with faster internet speeds at similar, if not lower, prices. TM is expected to offer something that aligns with this goal, and this is what we know so far.
The TM “Thank You Surprise” Unveiled
As many of you know, the “Thank You Surprise” campaign by TM is mainly focused on internet speed upgrades for UniFi users. The campaign’s website seems to suggest that there will be also be surprises set for Streamyx and Homeline users.
The downside here being that Streamyx and Homeline users will have to check again later to know what’s in store for them. Some UniFi users have also received the same kind of notification. As for now, we know that TM will be offering these to the customers, and it will vary depending on the user’s account:
- Option 1: RM 10 discount for their Unifi/Streamyx monthly bill for 12 month, if they are Webe Mobile subscriber.
- Option 2: Free HyppTV pack for 12 months.
- Option 3: Free two VOD contents on HyppTV per month, for 4 months.
- Option 4: RM 25 discount code for GEMFIVE.
- Option 5: Asked to return back on 1 March 2017 to know their actual “surprise”.
In other words, for Streamyx and certain UniFi users that are looking forward to speed upgrades, I’m going to have to give you the bad news. It doesn’t look like it’s happening anytime soon. The details are still foggy for Streamyx users as there’s no solid information on what can be expected.
At one point, TM did mention that there will be a new Streamyx plan available in June of this year but since the FAQ has been pulled from the website, it’s tough to say. Is it cancelled or has it just been postponed? No one knows for sure for the time being.
Pokdepinion: Now, I could easily say something like we should all move to Time/Maxis Fibre or some other ISP but that would be ignorant of me. Not everyone has access to them, and some are forced to stick to Streamyx. Don’t be despaired by the news. The internet speed upgrades are definitely coming but we just need to be extra patient.
