Wondered Why POCO Hasn’t Unleashed Their New Flagship? Here’s The Answer
Many were left stunned when POCO released the POCO F1, a flagship-killer which back then came with the highest end chipset available while still being priced relatively low. Many expected a smartphone to be on that level but what the public got was the POCO X2, a mid-range device. If you were wondering on why they haven’t released a smartphone that’s equipped with the new Snapdragon 865 chip yet, well here’s some answers.
The folks at Android Authority interviewed the company’s general manager, Manmohan Chandolu, where he explains on some of the reasons on why they haven’t released a smartphone of that caliber.
First and foremost, he explains that with the company’s decision to part with Xiaomi, he states that POCO is a startup company as of now, where he mentions that there’s changes to the traditional pricing structure of flagship chipsets, essentially the Snapdragon 800-series.
He says that they (the company) did not find costs of Qualcomm’s 2019 and 2020 flagship chipsets feasable. Here’s what he had to say:
Chipsets right now, all 800-series chipsets, are extremely expensive. And (the Snapdragon 865) being the first 5G generation, is just a lot more expensive.
Manmohan Chandolu, General Manager of POCO
Questions were asked when they opted to ignore even last year’s chipset, the Snapdragon 855 where he says the SoC did not see the same price depreciation as the company expected.
At the moment, it seems unlikely that POCO will release a brand new flagship smartphone…unless they conjure up some magic and surprise us all.
Pokdepinion: Well I can’t really say that I’m surprised by the news. However I wonder on whether they will release a POCO X2 Pro, since the normal variant is basically the Redmi K30..
