Apple may be releasing a new version of the AirPods Pro 2 with USB-C connectivity, according to a recent iOS 16.4 release candidate for developers. The update includes references to new AirPods with model code A3048 and a new AirPods case bearing model designation A2968. These are believed to be the USB-C version of the AirPods Pro 2, which were launched last year with a Lightning port.
Famous analyst Ming Chi-Kuo claims that the new AirPods will be shipped between the second and third quarters of this year. However, there are no other details on the USB-C version of AirPods Pro 2, and it’s unclear whether there will be any other hardware changes besides the charging case.
Apple is also expected to release the iPhone 15 lineup this year with a USB-C port instead of the Lightning port. Kuo claims that there are no plans for USB-C versions of AirPods 2 and 3, which means the AirPods Pro 2 will be the first truly wireless earphones from Apple to switch from the Lightning port to USB-C.
