Sony has announced a rather unusual model under its 1000X series lineup: the company dusted off its WH-1000XM4 design to spawn a new WH-1000XM4C variant, which features updated sound tuning. Alongside the new model include updated versions of its mid-range WH-CH730N and entry-level WH-CH530 headphones.
WH-1000XM4C: WH-1000XM4 Is Back… Sort Of
The WH-1000XM4C carries over the 1000X Series’ noise cancellation tech, with updated sound tuning to “meet modern listening tastes.” Sony chose the XM4 as the basis for the remaster, citing the original as “one of the series’ most celebrated headphones thanks to its combination of exceptional noise cancelling and its classic design.” The hardware is otherwise the same as what you get back in 2020, and to that end, it’s also cheaper to act as a mid-range model situated below the current flagship, the WH-1000XM6.
There are some small performance differences, we should note. Battery life is now rated at 27 hours, 3 less than the regular XM4 (both measured with ANC active); Bluetooth specification is also updated to version 6.0 standard. Three colors are available to choose from: Lavender, Black (this time without the copper accents), and Platinum Silver.
WH-CH730N & WH-CH530 Updates
The WH-CH730N now features a foldable design for the first time, along with Dual Noise Sensor technology for noise cancellation. The model offers up to 50 hours of battery life with ANC enabled, along with quick charging that provides one hour of playback from a three-minute charge. Precise Voice Pickup Technology combines beamforming microphones, optimized microphone placement and AI-powered noise reduction to keep voices clear in calls. The headphones also support LE Audio, Multipoint connection and Fast Pair/Swift Pair, and are available in White, Pink, Blue, Black and a new Beige colorway.
The WH-CH530 is aimed at first-time wireless headphone buyers, Sony says – it offers up to 55 hours of battery life, along with quick charging that adds 1.5 hours of playback from a three-minute charge. The model includes AI noise reduction for calls, a five-step adjustable volume control for hearing protection, and customizable EQ settings. It also supports LE Audio, Multipoint connection, Fast Pair/Swift Pair and built-in voice assistant access, and comes in six colors: Black, Cobalt, White, Pink, Coral and Mint.
Pricing & Availability
The WH-1000XM4C is available in Black, Platinum Silver and Lavender at a recommended retail price of RM1,399. The WH-CH730N carries a recommended retail price of RM649; the WH-CH530 is priced at RM239.
