Samsung is bringing new features and updates for Samsung Food, an AI-powered food and recipe platform, at IFA 2024. Celebrating its first anniversary, the platform has expanded to over six million users since its launch last year. The service is currently available in eight languages across 104 countries, the company noted.

The platform’s idea is straightforward: if you can’t decide what to cook, Samsung Food acts as a social media of sorts for everyone else to provide their cooking ideas. It offers features that allow for easy management of recipes and grocery lists, and a meal planner if you ever feel indecisive on what to cook. The app is available on both Android and iOS platforms.

In terms of new updates, Samsung Food now supports users in reaching health and wellness goals by offering nutrition-focused meal plans and tracking caloric intake and macronutrient levels – it provides weekly recipe and snack recommendations based on users’ dietary needs and preferences.

The Samsung Food+ subscription service (at $6.99/month) is also getting the new Vision AI technology, which allows users to add items to their Food List by taking a photo with a smartphone (it works with the Bespoke series that comes without the internal ‘AI Vision Inside’ cameras as well).

The subscription service also offers features like automatically adding purchased ingredients to the Food List, sending alerts for items nearing their use-by dates, and offering recipe suggestions based on available ingredients. On paper, this should reduce the likelihood of ingredients getting wasted, which saves money and promote sustainable food practices.
