AMD Announces Ryzen PRO 7040 Processors For Business Markets
AMD has just announced new Ryzen PRO 7040 Series Mobile processors for premium Windows 11 laptops and workstations – also introduced is the Ryzen PRO 7000 Series processors for desktop, catering to professional users.
The Zen 4 and RDNA3-powered Ryzen PRO 7040 chips differs in certain business-focused features such as AMD PRO technologies intended for security and manageability, and certain models will feature the XDNA-based Ryzen AI similar to the Ryzen 7040U/7040HS chips, capable of AI features such as webcam framing, background blur and more.
AMD touts the Ryzen 7 PRO 7840U offers an average of +17% in performance over Intel, and a similar +18% to Apple M2 Pro SoC. The same comparison also sees Ryzen beating Apple in battery life in video conferencing, with 15% more runtime. The product lineup mirrors that of consumer models, ranging from Ryzen 5 PRO 7540U all the way up to Ryzen 9 PRO 7940HS.
Meanwhile, Ryzen PRO 7000 desktop lineup will see three models available – the 12-core Ryzen 9 PRO 7945, 8-core Ryzen 7 PRO 7745 and 6-core Ryzen 5 PRO 7645. These are largely based on AMD’s consumer desktop chips (particularly the non-X lineup), with 65W TDP and frequency of up to 5.4GHz for the Ryzen 9 model.
OEM models featuring the Ryzen PRO lineup should arrive starting this month.
