It is still the launch season for Team Blue’s new Core Ultra 200S series processors, but AMD is already readying up a response according to leaker HXL (aka @9550pro). The chip to be launched in question is none other than the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, which will be Zen 5’s first X3D chip to enter the market.
Ryzen 7 9800X3D Launch Imminent?
This leak is corroborated by another known leaker ‘wjm47196’ residing in Chiphell forums; both sources claim that AMD will announce this chip on the day after Intel’s Arrow Lake processors become available (with review embargos lifted by then), though the retail launch will not happen until roughly two weeks later. Meanwhile, the Chiphell leaker has something to say on this chip:
Clock speed is pretty high, price is undecided so far (it won’t be cheap)
If you don’t have the immediate need, suggest wait for the 9950X3D
Earlier leaks from HardwareLuxx (via Videocardz) has revealed some internally discussed numbers, and the numbers might not be promising in general – MSI’s internal results suggest that gaming performance uplift can be as little as 2% over its direct predecessor, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, though this can depend on each and every game. On a more positive side, the same presentation also puts a 13% lead in games like Far Cry 6; single-thread performance is claimed to be 18% faster, so that’s something to look forward to as reviewers confirm the figures.
Pokdepinion: Cautiously optimistic.
