AMD Unveils Ryzen 8000G Series, Plus New Additions To Ryzen 5000 Series

Following the announcement of the Ryzen 8040 series just one month earlier, AMD is bringing more chips to the table. A total of 8 SKUs are introduced today, under the Ryzen 8000G series and the old – but still running strong – Ryzen 5000 series.

The biggest announcement this time around is the new G-series processors for Socket AM5. As the first lineup to feature full-fledged RDNA3-powered onboard graphics, the Ryzen 8000G will feature four chips – three of which (8700G, 8600G, 8500G) will be available as a standalone purchase. Meanwhile, the Ryzen 3 8300G will remain OEM-only, and the company has noted that it will not be available for DIY segments for the foreseeable future.

On the graphics side of things, the Radeon 780M inside the Ryzen 7 8700G is, according to AMD’s first-party benchmarks, powerful enough to match and even exceed the performance of a low-end desktop PC powered by Intel Core i5-13400F paired with NVIDIA GTX 1650. The company also claims vastly superior performance in productivity workloads, as well as SFF builds (when compared against the Core i7-14700K in dGPU-less scenarios).

These chips are based on the Ryzen 8040 “Hawk Point” APUs, which brings increased AI compute power over the preceding Ryzen 7040 “Phoenix” APUs. That means both the Ryzen 7 8700G and Ryzen 5 8600G will come equipped with Ryzen AI capable of 39 TFLOPs of combined processing power for AI workloads. As for the 8500G and 8300G, these two models will adopt the hybrid core design like their predecessors, with various combinations of full Zen 4 cores and miniaturized Zen 4c cores.

Aside from Ryzen 8000G announcements, AMD has also revealed new products under its legacy Socket AM4 platforms. These models include the third X3D chip in its lineup – the Ryzen 7 5700X3D, Ryzen 7 5700 (offered in boxed product for the first time), and two new 5000 ‘GT’ series APUs – the Ryzen 5 5600GT and Ryzen 5 5500GT, offering increased clocks.

AMD has also announced that all CPUs introduced today, with the exception of Ryzen 3 8300G being OEM-only, will be available on January 31st, 2024. The pricing has been revealed for the new Ryzen 5000 series lineup; however, no pricing has been publicized for the Ryzen 8000G series just yet.

Pokdepinion: Good to see Ryzen 5000 is still going strong after so many years.
