The NBD shipping database has once again revealed what AMD is cooking up next (as discovered by @Olrak29_): this time around, it’s the upcoming Ryzen Threadripper 9000 lineup, and it looks like options range from the modest 16-core option to the mighty 96-core option.

AMD Ryzen Threadripper 9000 Spotted

For some context, AMD’s most recent release in its HEDT (high-end desktop) platforms is the Ryzen Threadripper 7000 series, which features a minimum of 24 cores and a maximum of 64 (96 for Pro models). This time around, it looks like Team Red is re-introducing a 16-core option that hasn’t been available since the Ryzen Threadripper 2950X six years ago. (16-core option is still available in Ryzen Threadripper PRO lineups, however.)

The CPU listed here all label as “Ryzen Threadripper” without the “PRO” branding, so it’s likely that these are intended for HEDT markets. Besides from the 16-core part, a 96-core part would also be new to the HEDT segment, as the only 96-core processor available today for desktop PCs is the Ryzen Threadripper PRO 7995WX, intended for workstations (though you can technically install it into HEDT-based TRX50 platforms with some features restricted).

In any case, we’ll have to wait until more information is available to know if AMD is expanding the HEDT lineup for the next generation – and they certainly won’t be cheap due to lack of competition in this segment.
