AMD Socket AM4 Gets One More Lineup With Ryzen 5000XT Series

To everyone’s surprise, AMD’s long-lived Socket AM4 has found new models to work with even in 2024. It was said that Team Red will be supporting this almost 8-year-old platform until 2025, long past the initial targets.

At a recent event in China, AMD introduced two new processor families – the Ryzen 8000F series, and the Ryzen 5000XT series. The Ryzen 8000F series is basically the same as Intel’s F-series chips, both with integrated graphics disabled, which will require a discrete GPU to work. It’ll feature two models – the Ryzen 7 8700F and Ryzen 5 8400F. These are likely based on Zen 4 “Phoenix” APUs, given its 8000 series naming.

If you’re familiar with AMD’s CPU lineup, you may remember that this is not the first time AMD has used the ‘XT’ moniker for its processors. That was the Ryzen 3000XT series, which provided a small clock speed bump over its standard ‘X’ models.

However, AMD did not specify which specific models will get the XT naming, although we know 3 models were included in the Ryzen 3000XT lineup. In any case, we may see a relatively limited release as AMD’s priority is Socket AM5 today, so you might not see these chips entering the global market initially.
