Here’s a reminder: AMD has yet to make any mentions of its highly anticipated “Strix Halo” APUs so far, and the leaks and rumors up until this point has been pointing to something unique that can put its fight head on against Apple’s renowned M-series SoCs. Recently, a shipping manifest has uncovered a new Strix Halo variant with a staggering 128GB of RAM onboard.
AMD Strix Halo With 128GB RAM – The Ultimate Answer To Apple M-Series?
As usual, the trace was left on the NBD shipping database where several findings have been made previously. X (Twitter) user @Olrak29_ has found the listing on the website, which features one Strix Halo entry with 128GB RAM, while the rest come with 64GB RAM onboard. Earlier leaks has indicated that this super-APU use eight LPDDR5-8000 modules to feed the main chip as well as the GPU onboard, which is said to be on equal levels of performance as the NVIDIA RTX 4060 Laptop GPU, give or take.
To recap, Strix Halo will feature 16 Zen 5 cores, an onboard GPU with 40 Compute Units based on RDNA3.5 architecture, a potentially XDNA2-based NPU that offers up to 60 TOPS of AI compute, plus a separate 32MB MALL cache on top of 64MB L3 cache dedicated to the Zen 5 cores.
No leaks or rumors have given any solid indication on when will Strix Halo makes its debut, so your guess is as good as anyone’s at this point. With AMD remaining tight-lipped on this APU, it might take a while before Team Red officially reveals this highly anticipated chip.
