AMD Radeon RX 7800/7700 Series May Launch In September, At Gamescom
YouTube channel Moore’s Law Is Dead has revealed latest information on AMD’s unannounced Navi 32-based GPUs, namely the RX 7800/7700 series. The silicon is set to spawn three GPU models: the full-size N32 die, cut-down N32 die, and a special Navi 31/32 hybrid that packs the Navi 31 silicon down to a Navi 32 substrate package.
While the leak did not explicitly verify the model names, it’s possible to assume that the full-size Navi 32, with 60 Compute Units and 16GB of VRAM should be the Radeon RX 7800 XT – which has already seen in regulatory filing. The cut-down chip meanwhile will feature either 48 or 54 CUs, and likely designated as RX 7700 XT.
Also, there will be a Navi 31/32 hybrid chip that features as much as 70 CUs, though this might be a very limited product given that Navi 31 features up to 96 CUs, and it will require a lot of defects for it to qualify as this model instead of fitting into the existing RX 7900 series SKUs. Interestingly, the quote ended with “calling it a day on this generation”, pointing to AMD likely moving on to RDNA4 sooner than expected, and possibly skipping mid-cycle refreshes altogether.
As for the launch date, the GPU is scheduled to debut in Gamescom 2023, set to be held in Germany during 23-27 August this year. The planned release date meanwhile is currently set on September this year. Keep in mind that these information may change over time – as with the nature of leaks and work-in-progress products.
