Chinese publication ITHome recently obtained inside sources claiming that AMD will be releasing a third variant under the RX 9070 series, this time with the “GRE” suffix. The information originated from a local PC store in China, which claimed that the new RX 9070 GRE will be cheaper than the XT, and offers better value.
Radeon RX 9070 GRE?

In case you’re out of the loop – GRE used to stand for “Golden Rabbit Edition” during the Year of the Rabbit (2023) when it was initially introduced in China exclusively as RX 7900 GRE, but that has since become “Great Radeon Edition” instead when a second model, RX 7650 GRE, was launched (it however remains a China-exclusive to this day).

According to the PC shop’s post in WeChat obtained by ITHome, it reads:
Those not having the budget for 9070 XT can wait for the 9070 GRE, it’ll be better value for the money.
9060 XT will have to wait for a while.
ITHome has also obtained evidence for the 9070 GRE’s existence from other sources – but aside from that, there’s no information on its specs. While it’ll definitely be a cheaper alternative to the XT model, it’s unclear if it’ll slot above or below the 9070 non-XT. For reference, the 9070 XT packs 64 CUs, while the 9070 has 56; both feature 256-bit memory bus and a total of 16GB VRAM. A step down below 9070’s specs and 12GB VRAM is possible, said the publication.
If the previous releases are any indication, the 9070 GRE may be first released in China exclusively, so for the rest of the world, perhaps waiting for the 9060 XT is a better bet if you’re looking to get RDNA 4 GPUs at a lower price point in the near future.
Pokdepinion: Let’s see if this is indeed a better option compared to the 9070 non-XT.
