For years the tech community has grown displeasure against NVIDIA’s strange (if not outright deceptive) naming schemes, when the downhill began from the remarkably efficient GTX 10 series to the state today, where the RTX 4090 in laptop form is nothing like its desktop-bound namesake.

RTX 4090 “Laptop”

So, one Chinese modder who goes by the name of 爱超频的小白 (Newbie Who Likes Overclocking) took the matters to their hands by creating a laptop that fits the desktop version of NVIDIA’s RTX 4090 GPU, along with top-tier desktop parts you can find on the market. These includes the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D, 64GB DDR5-6800 KingBank RAM, ASUS ROG STRIX B650E-I GAMING WIFI motherboard, Intel Optane P5800X SSD, and a custom-made 20Wx2 stereo speakers that will make any laptop speakers look downright teeny.

The RTX 4090 in question is a likely custom-made blower fan design derived from a GALAX-based add-in board. Suffice to say, all 450 watts of GPU power does translate to performance unheard of in laptops, to the point the modder describes the retail RTX 4090-powered laptops as “terribly weak”.

There’s a few caveats with this design, one being that this “laptop” actually has no batteries onboard, so a power cable is a requirement, not an option. That means, when combined with the power supply, the entire unit weighs 8kg combined – with 6.7kg attributed to the laptop alone. It’s also insanely thick for a laptop, measuring 7 centimeters.
