NVIDIA RTX 5090 & RTX 5080 Launch Date Separated By Several Weeks: Leaker
Last week, leaker Kopite7kimi alleged that NVIDIA will not be the first to launch its uber-flagship RTX 5090 when the Blackwell generation debuts; instead, the RTX 5080 will be the first model introduced to the market, with RTX 5090 set to follow shortly. Both are expected to be announced in late 2024.
Courtesy of another leaker, @XpeaGPU, we now know that both cards will be announced at the same time, though the availability will differ between the two models. “To be exact, they should be announced at (the) same time with availability separated by (a) few weeks,” the leaker replied on X (Twitter). This should follow a release timing similar to RTX 30 series, with RTX 3090 slotted behind RTX 3080 for two weeks, despite both cards being announced on the same day.
Here’s a recap of the unconfirmed but known specs thus far: the RTX 5080 will feature 96 SMs (streaming multiprocessors) forming 12,288 CUDA cores (or 3/4 of RTX 4090) via the GB203 die, and it will be paired with a modest 256-bit memory bus. Meanwhile, the RTX 5090 will be a supersized GPU featuring GB202 silicon with double the core count (192 SMs / 24,576 CUDAs), double the memory bus (512-bit), and may be designed around a power envelope of 250W to 600W.
