NVIDIA RTX Remix Modding Tool Now Enters Open Beta, Available To Download
NVIDIA RTX Remix is a free game modding tool that is quite a different kind of beast when you compare it to most of the tools available out there. As exhibited by two official conversions – Portal With RTX and Half-Life 2 RTX, and one of the community-made conversions in the form of Need for Speed: Underground 2 has shown the sheer capability of its ease to remaster the games of old.
Today, NVIDIA announces that RTX Remix is entering Open Beta – and you can grab one copy by heading to NVIDIA’s webpage here. The secret sauce of RTX Remix is that it allows modders to enable advanced graphics technologies to decade-old games, such as path tracing, DLSS, Reflex, AI-upscaled or AI-generated textures, and physically-based rendering (PBR) assets to enable realistic lighting.
However, it’s worth noting that the tool works better on DirectX 8 and DirectX 9 titles, and games that use this API largely date back around 20 years. Fret not, however, as the modDB community has listed all the games currently compatible with RTX Remix. According to NVIDIA, the tool works in two parts: one involves an application for creating lighting and assets, while the other is a runtime that injects the remastered assets into the game in real time.
Pokdepinion: I expect plenty of good stuff coming out of this.
