COLORFUL has announced two new gaming motherboards under its new iGame B850M ULTRA series lineup for AMD Ryzen processors, comprising iGame B850M ULTRA-S and iGame B850M ULTRA-OC models. The former is for general-purpose use, whereas the latter, like its name suggests, is geared towards overclocking.
Both models adopt micro-ATX form factors commonly seen in mid-range segments, while their designs adopt an all-black look with matte-finish heatsinks, intended to match the company’s ULTRA line of RTX 50 series graphics cards. Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, AMD EXPO and PCIe 5.0 support are available as standard, while PCIe and M.2 slots feature tool-less mechanisms for quick installation and removal.
COLORFUL iGame B850M ULTRA-S
The iGame B850M ULTRA-S features a 14+2+1 phase 80A DrMOS VRM with power fed through dual 8-pin EPS power connectors, which is beefy enough to handle “flagship CPU” under full power load. The motherboard supports up to 256GB of DDR5 memory through four reinforced DIMM slots, with overclocking support for memory speeds up to 8400MT/s. One downside is that it lacks 7-segment LED display for debugging, which we think should be a standard feature for mid-range models and beyond.
Storage support on the ULTRA-S includes three M.2 slots – two PCIe 5.0 x4 and one PCIe 4.0 x4 – each equipped with quick-release heatsinks, plus four SATA 6Gb/s ports. Rear I/O includes a USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 (20Gbps) Type-C port, eleven USB Type-A ports in various speeds, HDMI and DisplayPort outputs, 2.5GbE LAN port and integrated Wi-Fi 7. For additional add-in cards, there’s a secondary PCIe 4.0 x1 slot far down on the motherboard as well.
COLORFUL iGame B850M ULTRA-OC
While COLORFUL says the iGame B850M ULTRA-OC is designed for overclocking, it’s actually got a weaker 10+2+1 phase 60A DrMOS VRM setup, and the company says this is still good enough to handle the likes of Ryzen 9 9950X3D and Ryzen 7 9850X3D. More importantly, this model does feature the aforementioned 7-segment LED for debugging, and it’s a must-have for overclockers.
The overclocking bit that COLORFUL is advertising on this motherboard most likely points to memory-specific overclocking, given that ULTRA-OC cuts the number of DIMM slots down to two. Such design improves signaling performance, and the company claims it’s capable of hitting 8800MT/s via manual overclocking. Storage-wise, the motherboard includes four M.2 slots with two PCIe 5.0 x4 and two PCIe 4.0 x4 interfaces. The rear I/O involves a single USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10Gbps) Type-C port, followed by seven USB-A ports, 5GbE LAN port, alongside Wi-Fi 7 support.
Pokdepinion: A bit surprised the OC model has a less powerful VRM to begin with.
