We recently discovered what looks like a major oversight on the TnG eWallet app – unlike most banking institutions that limits daily spending to relatively reasonable amounts (i.e. RM5,000), TnG’s app, by default, sets this limit at RM9,999 per transaction and RM120,000 per day, which poses great risk especially if the account is compromised.

TnG eWallet Oversight?

PSA: Double Check Your TnG eWallet's Daily Spending Limit Settings

This was originally reported by a user on Facebook last month (where the user suffered monetary losses from unauthorized transactions), who noted that the app’s transaction limits were set to the maximum value by default, which is RM120,000 per day. Discussions on the Facebook post and Reddit have seen many users confirming that this is indeed the default behavior of the app, which we’ve verified.

As a precaution, we advise everyone to check their TnG eWallet settings especially if you haven’t done so before. To configure the spending limits, tap the profile icon (top right) on the home page and select ‘Transaction Limit’ settings under Security section. Set the desired value for both Payment and Transfer spending limits – you can go as low as RM250 per transaction and RM500 per day. Once set, enter your PIN to confirm the changes.

Besides that, some users have also raised flags on the TnG VISA card causing unauthorized transactions (despite the card allegedly not activated) with several cases reporting difficulties with costumer support. While the original incident has been taken care of by TnG, it’s unclear if other cases have since been resolved – the company hasn’t made any official statements regarding this matter at this time.

Pokdepinion: The default spending limit setting might as well be “unlimited” – that’s way too high by all means.
