Aspiring entrepreneurs looking to start selling online will benefit from New Seller Programme with a 60-day Platform Support Fee waiver, along with a higher order cap before commission fees apply (now up to 200 orders), available for 120 days from a seller’s first product listing or until the order cap is reached, whichever comes first. These measures are intended to reduce upfront financial pressure during the early stages of setting up an online store.

For sellers already operating on the platform, Shopee is extending lower commission rates (up to 9%) to more than 60 additional everyday essentials categories, including milk, mineral water, cereal, bread, and eggs, with the list of categories subject to ongoing review. This brings the total number of everyday essentials categories with reduced commission rates to more than 120. Alongside the commission changes, Shopee’s Daily Essentials Discount Campaign runs from 7 to 31 July, offering shoppers discount vouchers of 20% to 50% across selected daily essentials categories.

Shopee is also introducing a 50% increase in Free Ads Credits through its Ads Startup Booster, aimed at improving product visibility for sellers in the early stages of their business. According to its internal data, sellers who began using its ads platform recorded an 18% increase in impressions, a 10% increase in clicks, and a 25% increase in total Gross Merchandise Value. New sellers joining its Fulfilled by Shopee (FBS) service is also offered a commission waiver, reducing the upfront cost of adopting fulfilment services and allowing sellers to make use of Shopee’s warehousing and logistics capabilities.

Pokdepinion: Lower fees and free ad credits are a solid start, but Malaysian sellers will be watching closely to see whether these benefits stick around after the promotional window closes.
