TNG Digital has introduced a new feature that allows international tourists to register for a TNG eWallet account using their foreign mobile numbers, enabling them to make cashless payments across Malaysia.

TNG eWallet Now Open For Malaysia Travelers

This initiative is aimed at supporting the local economy by simplifying transactions for tourists and expanding digital payment access to small businesses, including hawkers and micro-vendors that typically do not accept cards. For the first-stage rollout, tourists from ASEAN countries can now reload their eWallet using home country-issued credit or debit cards or supported global remittance services.

Today, TnG eWallet is accepted by over 2 million merchants and is compatible with DuitNow QR under PayNet’s network, which has more than 2.5 million merchant touchpoints nationwide. TNG Digital plans to expand this feature to travelers from additional countries including China, South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Japan in the future. (Side note, TnG recommends would-be travelers to install WhatsApp to facilitate the verification process.)

“As travelers ourselves, we understand how important it is to feel confident and connected when exploring a new place. We’ve been supporting Malaysians travelling abroad with offerings like overseas QR payments, Touch ‘n Go eWallet Visa Card, travel eSIMs and travel insurance,” said Alan Ni, CEO of TNG Digital. “Now, we’re proud to offer that same seamless digital journey to international tourists visiting Malaysia. It’s part of our commitment to financial inclusion – and to helping Malaysia grow as a smart, tourist-friendly destination.”

The initiative supports Malaysia’s preparations for Visit Malaysia Year 2026 and aims to encourage spending at various levels of the economy by offering a secure digital payment option.
