The call was made between the telco’s 5G trial sites at Kuah and Taman Berlian, Langkawi. In a cloud native 5G SA network, VoNR calls are established directly within a 5G network without relying on LTE technology. VoNR users will be able to enjoy seamless and high-definition voice calls while their smartphone maintains an ongoing 5G high-speed data connection for uninterrupted media downloads.

Thanks to the achievement, it marks a big step to realizing the full potential of 5G for consumers and enterprises, providing the foundation for services and application for things such as video conferencing and 5G interactions through augmented or virtual reality technologies.

Celcom’s CEO, Idham Nawawi has said that as Malaysia prepares for 5G launch by this year, successful trial demonstrates their commitment to 5G innovation and readiness providing high-quality 5G services.
