Maxis announced it has deployed Nokia’s optical transport technology to expand its nationwide and cross-border network infrastructure, targeting growing demand from enterprise customers, hyperscalers and AI-driven workloads. The deployment builds on Maxis Business’s existing connections to more than 50 datacenters across Malaysia.

Nokia 1830 PSS & PSE-6 Forms Maxis’ Latest Network Backbone

The implementation uses Nokia’s 1830 PSS and PSE-6 optical technology, delivering up to 1.2Tbps of capacity per channel. C+L band technology is used to expand the transmission spectrum, doubling the carrying capacity of the existing fiber infrastructure, while Nokia’s WaveSuite automation platform provides network resilience and management.

“Our collaboration with Nokia strengthens the optical foundation of our network, enabling us to meet growing traffic demands while providing a best-in-class connectivity experience for our global and domestic customers looking for resilient, secure and high-capacity, low latency networks for managing their AI workloads and connecting their Malaysian datacenters with the rest of the world. It also allows us to support and advance the government’s digital transformation agenda,” said Prateek Pashine, Chief Enterprise Business Officer of Maxis.

“Nokia’s next-generation optical networking technology enables service providers like Maxis to build scalable transport networks for the rapid growth of AI, cloud and enterprise traffic. Together, we are creating a future-ready optical foundation that connects the intelligence emerging across AI, cloud and enterprise ecosystems, while supporting robust connectivity and emerging digital services,” said Ming Kin Ngiam, Head of Southeast Asia at Nokia.

For enterprise users, Maxis said the upgraded network delivers improved support for mission-critical workloads, while OTT players and hyperscalers gain capacity for 4K media streaming, high-density AI compute, Data Center Interconnect and large-scale data backups. The company said the deployment supports Malaysia’s goal of positioning itself as a regional digital hub.

Pokdepinion: More backbone capacity means less bottlenecking downstream, which should translate to more happy users.
