During a live trial, CelcomDigi and U Mobile, in collaboration with ZTE Corporation, have set a new record for mobile speed in Kuching, Sarawak using the new 5G-A (5G-Advanced) technology. The speeds of 30.8Gbps has been recognized by the Malaysia Book of Records and is currently the fastest mobile speed recorded globally, while individual devices have been recorded with up to 8.5Gbps of throughput.
World’s Fastest 5G

The companies plan to showcase this technology through Malaysia’s first-ever 5G-A live broadcast during the Opening Ceremony of SUKMA 2024 in Sarawak, in collaboration with the nation’s broadcast service, Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM). The broadcast is expected to feature “high-resolution streams with minimal delay,” powered by the wireless ecosystem that will offer greater flexibility and real-time coverage capabilities.
It’s also worth noting that Paris Olympics also utilized similar technologies for its opening, which featured a dedicated 5G network and a huge number of Samsung’s Galaxy S24 Ultras (plus the accompanying antennas and chase boats) to deliver the broadcast wirelessly through the Seine river. As such, utilizing 5G-A may allow broadcasters to deliver large number of streams outside the confines of a specific venue, and provides the event organizer an opportunity to expend beyond set venues.
As part of the public engagement, visitors to the CelcomDigi, U Mobile, and ZTE 5G-A Pavilion outside Stadium Sarawak will have the opportunity to experience 5G-A enhanced extended reality (XR). Visitors can immerse themselves in the stadium’s action through VR goggles using 360° cameras powered by 5G-A installed in various locations.
