Google has officially launched the YouTube Creators for Impact program in Malaysia, bringing together six trusted homegrown content creators to help families navigate online safety and build healthier digital habits at home. The initiative responds to growing demand for practical guidance on parental controls and youth well-being in an increasingly connected society.

The program draws on data from the 2025 APAC AI Safety Survey by YouGov, which found that 72% of Malaysian parents feel more confident discussing online safety when they use digital safety or educational tools together with their children. YouTube Creators for Impact aims to close the gap between available platform tools and actual household adoption by channeling that guidance through familiar, trusted voices.

YouTube Creators for Impact: The Six Lighthouse Creators

Google has designated the six participating creators as “Lighthouse Creators”, selected for their credibility, positive influence, and ability to connect meaningfully with Malaysian families. The lineup consists of A Lad and a Dad, Aqil Zulkiflee, Fourfeetnine, FU LOVE, Im_siowei, and JE Pong.

Aqil Zulkiflee built his following through high-energy gaming content and wholesome family vlogs, and now advocates for a safe digital environment for younger viewers as a first-time father. A Lad and a Dad, based in Penang, created his channel as a digital time capsule for his three children and champions real-world family bonding alongside healthy tech-life balance.

Fourfeetnine, known for over two decades of candid lifestyle content, focuses on child development, screen-time boundaries, and the risks of sharenting as her children reach their teenage years. FU LOVE documents multicultural family life with an emphasis on mindful parenting and open communication between parents and young children.

Im_siowei, a Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia alumna, uses her comedy platform to address cyberbullying and toxic internet culture, offering a relatable voice to teens dealing with digital peer pressure. JE Pong, a music artist and co-founder of PONG Entertainment, shifted her focus after becoming a mother to advocating for safe early-childhood digital media practices and maternal well-being.

Over the next two months, the six YouTube creators will attend intensive workshops alongside industry experts, gaining firsthand knowledge of parental control features and youth well-being issues on YouTube. The content they produce will be structured around three pillars: Smart Guardrails, covering practical tips on parental tools and safety features; Digital Wellness, focusing on strategies for healthy tech habits at home; and Purposeful Tech, exploring how technology can serve as a learning and skill-building resource for children.

Ben King, Managing Director of Google Malaysia and Singapore, noted that the company’s approach centers on protecting children in the digital world rather than shielding them from it entirely (which is the approach taken by some jurisdictions, such as UK). YB Teo Nie Ching, Deputy Minister of Communications, welcomed the initiative as part of a broader national commitment to building a resilient digital ecosystem through collaboration between government, industry, and communities.

Pokdepinion: Getting six creators to explain YouTube’s own safety features to parents is a clever move, though one does wonder why the platform needs influencers to teach people how to use the tools that were already there all along.
