Google is offering eligible university students 12 months of Google AI Plus at no cost, as part of a new suite of AI tools and offers introduced ahead of the back-to-school season.
Google AI Plus Free To Students In 140+ Countries
The offer is available to eligible university students in more than 140 countries, including Malaysia. Through the Google AI Plus subscription, students can access Gemini Omni, which allows them to interact with various input types, including video, through voice. The subscription also includes increased usage limits during exam periods and 400GB of storage for academic files.

Google stated the offer aligns with the Malaysian government’s push to broaden access to AI software and strengthen digital skills among young Malaysians.
Students requiring higher usage limits can subscribe to the Google AI Plus plan at RM23.99/month (from RM97.99), which includes four times higher usage limits in Gemini, expanded AI features in Search, Gemini integration in apps such as Gmail and Google Docs, 5TB of storage, and YouTube Premium Lite. Students can also bundle YouTube Premium with the Google AI Pro plan at RM33.49/month (from RM118.89).
Students can check their eligibility and sign up through Google’s official student offer page. The free offer and discounted plans run until 31 December 2026. Alongside these offers, Google has also introduced new AI-powered study tools across Gemini and Search, including Study Notebooks, Practice Quizzes, and integration with Google Classroom, aimed at supporting students through the new academic year.
Pokdepinion: It’s certainly one way of locking students into Gemini ecosystem – let’s hope students don’t get too reliant on AI to give them answers down the line.
