Microsoft Edge Once Again Annoys Its Users To Use Bing Instead Of Google
It’s hard to say exactly how desperate Microsoft is begging its users to use its Bing search engine, given that despite integrating ChatGPT into it, such a feature did not make a dent in Google’s near-complete dominance over the search engine market. This time, it involves a browser prompt – less annoying than the “malware-like” notification, but still annoying nonetheless.

Stardock developer Brad Sams posted on X (Twitter) decrying Microsoft’s tactics of prompting the user to switch their search engines when it detects the user using Google Search as the default search engine in Edge. The prompt reads: “Microsoft Edge helps you stay protected while you browse by blocking phishing and malware attacks,” followed by the request to set Bing as the default search engine.
Unfortunately, this is just one of the many antics the company has tried to pull on its users. In the past, the process of forcing Windows users to use its software involved making switching default browsers intentionally difficult, system-level pop-ups, and even questionnaires (while trying its best to nudge you, of course). At this point, the question is less of “Would Microsoft do this again?” but rather, “When/What is the next attempt going to be?”
