WhatsApp May Soon Introduce Voice Transcripts For Android Users

You may have a friend who loves to send multiple voice messages in succession, but not every person has the best listening skills or just plain patience to go through every second of it. In that case, you’re in luck – WABetaInfo reported that WhatsApp is currently testing voice transcripts on its Android beta build.

It’s worth noting that the iOS version of the app already had this feature last year, but Android users are finally catching up a year later. The feature is visible in version 2.24.7.8 of the app, which is now available via the Google Play Beta Program for opt-in.

Getting this feature ready will involve a first-time setup process. The app will ask the user to download 150MB of app data to enable voice transcriptions, and to maintain end-to-end encryption, all of the voice processing will be done locally on the device – meaning nothing is uploaded to the cloud, which helps keep the content secure from the prying eyes.

Right now, there have been no signs as to when this feature will see formal release, but it’s safe to expect the new feature to be announced for all Android users in the coming months, if not weeks.

Pokdepinion: I would greatly appreciate this since I’m more of a reader than a listener. (Listening is hard.)
