GXBank Launches Impian GIGih Social Initiative To Help Underserved Communities
GX Bank Berhad (GXBank) has introduced Impian GIGih, a manifestation of the bank’s commitment to fostering financial inclusion and literacy among underserved communities. The company also unveiled the trailer titled “Sepoket Impian“, which underlines a father’s frustrations of being burdened financially, while trying to support his son’s dreams.
Pei Si Lai, CEO of GXBank, emphasized the institution’s dedication to financial inclusion, stating, “As a Malaysian digital bank, we have our bank rooted in our mission to be purpose-driven. Reflecting on our first 100 days of operation, we are humbled and inspired by the support of Malaysians and our partners. As we introduce new products and enhancements like our QR pay and the GX App in BM, we are also moving ahead to do what we were made for – serving the underserved.”
“We want to help Malaysians grow and thrive through customized financial services. We will do so [by] leveraging technology to identify and solve their unmet financial pain points. Ultimately, we want to be that bridge for the underserved; paving a path and supporting their journey to achieve their financial goals,” Chief of Staff Hildah Hamzah said.
Impian GIGih emphasizes “fortifying Malaysia’s financial resilience,” particularly for gig workers and the B40 segment. The initiative focuses on three foundational pillars: enhancing financial well-being, ensuring educational accessibility, and promoting financial literacy.
As part of the pilot project, GXBank partnered with MYDIN and GoBarakah to distribute physical and virtual bursaries to B40 families and Grab drivers in Kelantan and Johor Bahru. This initiative provided back-to-school kits and e-vouchers for school essentials to 500 children of the B40 community across Johor and Kelantan, easing the burden of education expenses. GoBarakah will also provide e-vouchers to registered beneficiaries which can be used to purchase school essentials at select vendors nationwide.
Given economic challenges and the rise of gig work, GXBank aims to provide tertiary education scholarships to children of gig workers and B40 parents, recognizing the importance of education in breaking the cycle of poverty. “Knowledge is a powerful tool that can influence their future. Empowering them with the right information and financial products can ensure the future of their children, without the added financial burden,” Lai said.
In partnership with various financial institutions and technology providers like Euronet, Idemia, Mastercard, Onfido, and Paynet, GXBank invites Malaysians to participate in the “Singgah di Semua” event on March 23, 2-7pm, featuring interactive discussions on digital banking, support for local entrepreneurs, and opportunities to win prizes.
