WhatsApp is gearing up to launch a new feature: double tap message reactions. This functionality, a long-time staple of Instagram DMs, is being borrowed from its sister platform under the Meta umbrella.

Currently, the feature is in testing on Android with the latest beta build. To access it, you need to be on the beta channel of WhatsApp for Android, which can be joined through its Play Store listing. However, slots may be limited, as they often are.

As the name suggests, the double tap message reaction feature allows users to quickly add a reaction to any message with a simple double tap. This can be used on photos, videos, and GIFs directly from the media viewer screen, saving users precious time. Double tapping on a message to react will instantly add a heart emoji, similar to Instagram. For other emoji reactions, users will still need to long press the message and select from the reaction tray.

It’s important to note that there will be no option to disable this double tap to react feature. This might pose a challenge for some users who could accidentally react to old messages while scrolling through their chat history. Since the feature is currently in beta, it is expected to roll out to all users in the coming weeks or months.
