WhatsApp Testing Native Quality Photo & Video Uploads

Shortly after WhatsApp formally announcing the HD photo uploads, the latest beta revealed by WABetaInfo has indicated that the messaging app might go one step further, making it possible to send images and videos with native quality (that is, with no compressions made).

The WhatsApp Android beta v2.23.18.12 includes the option to upload images in “original quality” – however, this has to be done in the form of uploading documents. It’s a streamlining of feature that is technically doable before (as the article mentions this as a new “entry point”), but it’s not as straightforward than say, flipping a switch in the photo upload menu like you do for HD image uploads. In a sense, the photos uploaded using this menu will present itself as a “document” with no direct previews.

While HD image uploads are a welcoming addition for those who seeks better picture quality, those who demands no compression should be well covered by this upcoming feature. No timeline is available as to when this feature eventually lands on the release version, so we’ll just have to wait until that happens.

Pokdepinion: It doesn’t sound exactly intuitive to upload a photo as document, though.
