WhatsApp Brings More Security Features Behind The Scenes

WhatsApp today has announced three new security-related features to further enhance account security. Aside from the end-to-end encryption the app is known for, the app now introduces device migration checks, automatic device verification and automatic security code verification.

The first of three, as the developer calls it “Account Protect” is fairly straightforward. When transferring to new devices, WhatsApp will now require user to authenticate from the old device to begin data transfers. The developers says this can help alert users in the event of unauthorized device migration attempts.

The second feature requires no action from users – the Device Verification adds checks for authentication to ensure no messages can be sent through malware, should the device be compromised. Another automated security feature is the simplified process of Security Codes. The new process, dubbed “Key Transparency”, will automatically verify on the connection to ensure users are communicating with the intended recipient. In simpler terms, just tap on “Encryption” tab and the app should now tell you if the chat is secure.
