WhatsApp With Wear OS Support Brings The Conversation To Smartwatches
Meta is officially announcing (through CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s Instagram Broadcast feature) that WhatsApp is finally coming to smartwatches – specifically, the ones that supports Wear OS 3. “You can now WhatsApp from your wrist with the new WhatsApp for Wear OS app,” wrote Zuckerberg.
Coupled with the jettisoning of requirement of active phone connection – this version of the app can run independently and will be able to respond to chats using the usual stuff: voice, emojis, quick replies or text – if you have the patience to type in these tiny screens.
The release of Wear OS version puts Google back on equal footing against Apple, which has already supported the app’s watch version for some time. Google will need everything it can pull to compete with Apple’s vastly more popular option, so this will be an important step for the Alphabet company, and a win for chat app’s user reach.
