Microsoft Sends Windows 11 Upgrade To Unsupported Systems By Accident

Even if you agree to install, the actual limitations on the hardware will stop it from upgrading anyway.

Microsoft recently has been accidentally sending Windows 11 upgrades to old, unsupported hardware as spotted by Twitter user @PhantomOfEarth. Some people reported receiving the upgrade notice on their PCs, but if they chose to click the upgrade button – the process won’t go through as the underlying limitation on the hardware simply won’t be compatible with Windows 11’s requirements.

One user reported even their school computer which runs on arguably ancient hardware at this point – 2GB DDR3, 1.12GHz CPU and the likes – somehow got the upgrade notice from Microsoft as well. They noted that even Windows 10 proved to be struggling on this hardware.

Of course, with Microsoft laying out strict requirements since the inception of Windows 11, it’s not the intention of the company to offer these legacy systems the upgrade. One of them in particular, TPM 2.0, ruled out many relatively newer systems as well which has irked some of its users. While workarounds exist – compatibility issues are almost a given.

Microsoft has since posted a follow-up noting the mistake has been fixed – users won’t need to do anything for the fix to manifest itself.

Pokdepinion: I guess this bug is likely slipped from the original intention of pushing even more aggressive upgrade notices to qualified Windows 10 systems, though my PC in particular hasn’t seen it yet (likely because I rejected the upgrade once before).
