Google Bard Will Soon Be Renamed To Gemini, According To Leaks
The name ‘Bard’ is going the way of the dodo – Google is planning to rename the AI chatbot with a new name, according to a leaked document.

Android app developer Dylan Roussel has revealed that the search engine company will soon rename Bard as ‘Gemini’, the name of which was previously announced as the next iteration of the company’s large language models (LLMs). “We’re committed to giving everyone direct access to Google AI […] to better reflect this commitment, we’ve renamed Bard to Gemini,” the document reads.
Gemini is pitched as the competitor to OpenAI’s GPT-4 model, and the company is deeply integrating the AI into many of its services, including Gmail, Maps, and YouTube. In the screenshot, the document also mentions the “Ultra 1.0” model with the Gemini Advanced plan, which is “far more capable at highly complex tasks like coding, logical reasoning, following nuanced instructions, and creative collaboration.”
The “Gemini era”, as Google words it, will also improve on UI. “We’ve also evolved the UI to reduce visual distractions, improve legibility, and simplify the navigation.” Aside from text prompts, the AI assistant promises more interaction methods, like voice and images. For now, the new AI assistant will come in the form of an app for Android, whereas iOS users will need to access to Google app to get access.
Finally, the document, presumed to be a changelog, also noted “2024.02.07”, which likely indicates the date of the name change occurring. However, availability remains limited for now, only selected regions will have access to the AI. For Malaysians, likely, we won’t see Gemini here for a while.
