YouTube Shorts, YouTube’s TikTok Competitor Is Rolling Out Now

It looks like YouTube has started rolling out YouTube Shorts, the company’s answer to the popular social media app TikTok. Shorts works very similar to TikTok, users can post short and vertically shot videos and post them online. Shorts is currently in Beta and it is understood that not everyone has received the update yet.

Move over TikTok, YouTube Shorts is coming

Shorts was first announced back in September last year via a blog post by Chris Jaffe, YouTube’s Vice President of Product Management. India is the first country to receive a beta version of YouTube Shorts (as TikTok is banned in India) and has seen great success there. Shorts has reportedly received up to 3.5 billion views per day in India alone. In comparison, TikTok is expected to reach a whopping 1 billion active users by 2021.

This is not the first time other companies have tried releasing their own version of TikTok. Social media giant Facebook also got in the act by developing their own TikTok clone called Instagram Reels.

The YouTube Shorts rollout is supposed to start this month in the United States with a global rollout to follow soon after.

Pokdepinion: Don’t think I’ll be joining this. Not a huge fan of TikTok and its ilk anyway.
