FREE STYLE, Inc. has released OBAKEIDORO 2: Chase & Seek, the sequel to its 2019 title OBAKEIDORO!, on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. The game is available for download on the Nintendo eShop. Owners of the digital version of the original title on Nintendo Switch will receive a 10% discount on OBAKEIDORO 2; players who purchase OBAKEIDORO 2 on Nintendo Switch can upgrade to the Nintendo Switch 2 version at an 80% discount.
OBAKEIDORO 2: Chase & Seek
OBAKEIDORO 2: Chase & Seek is set in a supernatural world inspired by traditional Japanese folklore and centers on an asymmetric multiplayer game of tag. Players can compete solo or in teams, choosing between the roles of Monster or Human across matches supporting up to eight players online.
Matches in consist of three-minute rounds in which one or two players take on the role of Monster while three or six players act as Humans. Monsters win by capturing all Humans and confining them before time runs out, while Humans win if at least one player evades capture until the round ends.
Monsters possess distinct abilities, including the ability to pass through walls, move at high speed, or perform capture attacks. Humans must rely on teamwork to evade capture, including using an item called the Lantern to stun Monsters, and can rescue captured teammates from jail, though attempting a rescue carries the risk of being caught by a Monster lying in wait.
The game supports both online and local multiplayer for up to eight players, along with a Custom Rules mode that allows adjustments to factors including the Monster-to-Human ratio and time limits. Using the Game Share feature on two Nintendo Switch 2 systems, players without a copy of the game can join matches with those who own it.
OBAKEIDORO 2 includes six gameplay modes: Quick Match, an online mode with rotating maps; Room Match, which allows private online sessions; Join Friends, for joining existing sessions; Single Player Chase & Seek, a solo mode used to earn in-game currency; Local Party Chase & Seek, a local wireless mode for up to eight players; and Splitscreen Chase & Seek, a four-player mode for a single system.
DLCs & Upcoming Events
Alongside the game’s launch, FREE STYLE released the first Character DLC Bundle, which includes a ninja-themed outfit for the character Ponkichi, a new item called the Substitute Lantern, and a new Monster character named Gasha. The bundle is priced at $9.99 and became available at the same time as the game’s launch on 6 August 2026.
A limited-time event titled “Ghouligan’s Pranks Underway!” will run in Quick Match from 13 to 30 August 2026, during which Monsters and Humans temporarily swap roles. FREE STYLE said additional limited-time maps and events are planned, including a Halloween-themed event scheduled for October.
