U Mobile has received independent recognition from both Ookla and Opensignal for its ULTRA5G network performance, with the telco named Malaysia’s Best Mobile Network and Malaysia’s Fastest 5G Network at the Ookla Speedtest Awards for Q1 to Q2 2026.
ULTRA5G Tops Ookla Speedtest Rankings
U Mobile achieved the highest Speedtest Connectivity Score in Malaysia at 80.34, earning the Best Mobile Network award. This score is calculated by combining real-world speed, web browsing, and video streaming performance. The telco also recorded the highest 5G Speed Score of 67.26 and the fastest median 5G download speed in the market at 348.73 Mbps, which secured its Fastest 5G Network recognition.
The Ookla results follow strong findings from Opensignal’s Malaysia Mobile Network Experience Report published in July 2026. Opensignal identified U Mobile as the biggest mover among Malaysian operators, noting the largest improvement in Reliability with a gain of 99 points. The company moved from last place in the previous report to joint first in that category.
U Mobile also improved its Consistent Quality score by 12 percentage points to claim first place outright. The company won both the Download Speed Experience and Upload Speed Experience awards, and led nationally across Consistent Quality, Download Speed, Upload Speed, and 5G Availability.
At the regional level, the telco secured 51 outright and 64 shared Opensignal awards. It achieved a clean sweep of Download Speed awards across all regions and won recognition for 5G Download Speed and 5G Availability in every region, either outright or jointly.
U Mobile attributes these results to the continued expansion of its ULTRA5G network and its move to end-to-end control of its own 5G infrastructure, as it exclusively operates the nation’s second 5G network (while the other one is operated under Digital Nasional Berhad). With this transition, the company says it is “better positioned to enhance coverage, optimize quality, and invest in the capabilities that matter most to customers.”
