Apple is highlighting a range of mental wellbeing features across Apple Watch, iPhone, and Apple Fitness+ to mark World Mental Health Day on 10 October. From a limited-edition Apple Watch award to new meditation content, the initiative brings together tools already built into Apple’s health ecosystem to encourage users to take a moment for themselves.
New Rewards For World Mental Health Day
Apple Watch users can earn a limited-edition digital award on 10 October by recording at least 10 minutes of meditation or any workout using an app that contributes mindful minutes to the Health app (the reward is depicted in the image at the top of this article). The Mindfulness app on Apple Watch offers Reflect and Breathe sessions, giving users a straightforward way to claim the award while taking a short mental break.
On iPhone and iPad, users can log their state of mind in the Health app or via the Mindfulness app on Apple Watch. The feature lets users record momentary emotions and daily moods over time, and can surface correlations between mental state and lifestyle factors such as exercise, sleep, time spent in daylight, and mindful minutes. Mental health assessments for depression and anxiety risk are also available directly on iPhone and iPad.
The Journal app on iPhone, iPad, and Mac also plays a role. Users can reflect on their day and log emotions through journaling, with time spent in the app automatically counted as mindful minutes in the Health app. Meanwhile, Apple Fitness+ is adding a new 20-minute Sleep Meditation with Christian, released in conjunction with World Mental Health Day. The session is designed to help users wind down and transition into sleep at the end of the day.
Beyond the new addition, Fitness+ offers a broad catalogue of meditations covering Breath, Sleep, Sound, Calm, Resilience, Focus, Purpose, Kindness, Gratitude, Awareness, Creativity, and Wisdom. A dedicated six-episode program called Meditations for When You Feel Stress or Anxiety is also available, built to help users manage or prepare for moments of stress and anxiety. All Fitness+ meditations are accessible on-demand, without a fixed schedule.
