The Overwatch Season 5 midseason update is now live, closing out the game’s first year-long narrative arc with the Taking Reign event. Doomfist and Overwatch converge on Rialto to settle the battle against Vendetta once and for all, capping off a year of shifting power dynamics within Talon. Alongside the story conclusion, the update brings a major crossover collaboration, a new Mythic skin, returning loot events, and more running through early December.
Overwatch Season 5 Midseason Events & New Content

The centerpiece of the midseason update is Taking Reign, a five-week event running from 3 November to 7 December. The event features 24 tiers of rewards tied to in-game play and challenges. The Free Pass path offers an Epic Sigma skin recolor, while upgrading to the premium Event Pass for 1,000 Overwatch Coins unlocks an additional track featuring Legendary Resurgence Doomfist and Vendetta’s new Legendary Weapon. Notably, the Premium Event Pass can be completed at any point during Season 6 after purchase, so there is no hard deadline for finishing the reward track.

The Overwatch x EVE Protocol crossover runs from 3 to 17 November, bringing characters from the EVE Protocol universe into the game. Widowmaker takes on the role of EVE, D.Va suits up as Lily in an Ultra skin with custom kill effects and first- and third-person reactivity, and Freja becomes the adversarial Raven. Vendetta steps into the role of Tachy while Soldier: 76 becomes Adam. D.Va’s mech Tokki is redesigned after the Providence final boss from EVE Protocol.

Mythic Necrotic Knight Roadhog arrives with the midseason update, casting Roadhog as a corrupted knight cursed with an endless hunger for souls. The skin offers four levels of Mythic customization covering helmet variants, additional color palettes, and transformative ability effects including ethereal skulls, spectral flames, and smoke. Custom Hook and projectile effects, along with unique voice lines, are also included.
Excavation Initiative returns from 3 November to 7 December, rewarding players with Loot Boxes for completing three digs each week, with extra Epic and Legendary Loot Boxes available for continued play. Junkrat’s Loot Hunt runs from 20 to 23 November with no daily reset, allowing players to complete up to nine Loot Box challenges across the event weekend at their own pace. Double XP will be active throughout Junkrat’s Loot Hunt.
Drives, World Finals & Black Friday Vault Sale
Competitive and Quick Play Drives return from 3 to 7 December with separate reward tracks. Competitive Drives offer up to 3,000 Competitive Points and a Signature, while Quick Play Drives offer up to 3,000 Legacy Weapon Points. Players can pursue both tracks simultaneously. Signature customization is expanded this season, allowing players who reach the fourth checkpoint to equip eligible previous Signatures and customize Player Card Frames.
The OWCS World Finals head to Guangzhou from 2 to 6 December, with twelve teams competing for the 2026 trophy. The in-game Cheer Rally runs from 3 to 7 December, letting players earn rewards by completing challenges and linking their Twitch or YouTube accounts to claim additional drops while watching the event live.
The Black Friday Vault Sale opens on 3 November and runs through 7 December, offering curated bundles of rare cosmetics. Highlights include the Peak Mega Bundle featuring community-favorite skins, Hero Spotlight Bundles for Mercy, Soldier: 76, Ramattra, and D.Va, the 2026 Mega Unvault Bundle, role-based Essentials Bundles for Tank, Support, and Damage, and a StarCraft Mega Bundle for Blizzard fans.
Pokdepinion: A whole year of lore and it still ends with a battle pass and loot boxes, very Overwatch.
